Box Score ANDERSON, Ind. — For the second straight week, Earlham College quarterback Dorian Jenkins led the Quakers to victory.

This Saturday, Jenkins and his teammates survived a long field goal attempt on the last play as the Quakers defeated Anderson University 37-34 at Macholtz Stadium.

“Our defense did just enough to hold on for the win,” Earlham Head Coach Gerry Keesling said. “Anderson had a great fourth quarter, but our offense did a very good job as well.”

Earlham led 27-7 at the beginning of the fourth period before the Ravens (0-3) rallied with 27 points in the final stanza to close the gap and set up a game-tying kick.

Jenkins completed 17-of-31 passes for 220 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. He also ran the ball 19 times for 77 yards and two more scores.

“Dorian did all of that on a sprained ankle,” Keesling said. “We made a lot of plays offensively, but we missed some opportunities as well and that led to three field goals.”

Max Crumley-Effinger tied a school record with three field goals in a game. Kevin Willis set the mark against Ohio Wesleyan University in 1997.

An Early Lead

The Quakers got the scoring started in the opening period when Jenkins and L.V. Plummer hooked up on a screen pass that became an 18-yard touchdown play at the 7:09 mark. The Ravens later tied the contest at 7-7.

In the second quarter, Jenkins gave the Quakers a 14-7 lead on a 1-yard run with 6:27 remaining. With 43 seconds left in the first half, Jenkins found Kyle Ripperger for a 16-yard scoring pass to give the Quakers a 21-7 advantage at intermission.

The only scoring the third quarter came from a pair of field goals by Crumley-Effinger. The first was from 47 yards at 4:42. The second was a 38-yard attempt with 1:43 left.

From that point, Anderson changed quarterbacks and the Ravens responded as did the Quakers. Jenkins ran for a 12-yard score and Crumley-Effinger booted a 37-yard field goal, which turned out to be the most important points of the contest.

Anderson added two more touchdowns to set up the field goal on the final play that didn't have the distance to send the contest into overtime.
Chris Owens led the Quakers with four receptions for 57 yards. Ripperger finished with three grabs for 51 yards.

Defensively, Adam LaFollette led the Quakers with 15 tackles, while Jake Carr had an interception. The defense also blocked a field goal.

A Record Leg

Crumley-Effinger is beginning to have his name in several places in the Earlham record book. In addition to tying the field goals in a game mark, he set a new standard in kicking points in a contest with 13 points. He surpassed the old record of 11 held by Don Siler (Principia, 1994) and Sam Hogenauer (Franklin, 1968).

With 13 field goals in his career, Crumley-Effinger is one away from equaling the all-time mark set by Siler (1991-94). Earlier this season, Crumley-Effinger passed Siler in career kicking points and he now has 116 points.

The Quakers (2-1) are idle next week before opening the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of the schedule by entertaining the College of Wooster on Oct. 3. The contest in Darrell Beane Stadiums starts at 1 p.m.
