BLUFFTON, Ohio — The Earlham College football team fell 23-6 on Saturday to Bluffton University in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.
Earlham quarterback
Jacob Stewart (Richmond, IN, Centerville) led the Quakers by completing 16-of-33 passes for 177 yards.
Jaysn Murphy (Winchester, IN, Winchester) was the most productive receiver for the Quakers with four grabs for 77 yards.
Woody Earls (New Lebanon, OH, Dixie) topped the Quakers with five catches for 14 yards.
Kaleb Lingg (Dayton, OH, Northridge) finished with three receptions for 44 yards.
Defensively,
Aaron Barth (Springfield, OH, Springfield Shawnee) led the Quakers with 11 tackles, while
Dakota McElley (Lawrenceburg, IN, Lawrenceburg) had 10 stops.
Seth Shipley (Springfield, OH, Springfield Shawnee) contributed nine tackles.
The Beavers (1-4, 1-2) put 10 points on the scoreboard in the opening period to take an early lead.
In the second quarter, both teams added field goals as the Beavers led 13-3 at intermission.
Ryan Acosta (San Juan, PR, Commonwealth) booted a 42-yard field goal with 39 seconds left in the half for Earlham's score.
After a scoreless third frame, Bluffton made it 20-6 with another touchdown before Agosta added his second field goal of the contest from 22 yards to cap an 11-play, 71-yard drive with 8:23 remaining.
Bluffton finished the scoring with a field goal late in the final stanza.
Earlham (0-5, 0-3) is back at home next Saturday against Hanover College. The HCAC game in Darrell Beane Stadium begins at 1:30 p.m.
