EC Falls to Big Red

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College football team played Denison University in its home opener on Saturday afternoon as the Quakers fell 44-7 in Darrell Beane Stadium.

Earlham's touchdown came in the fourth period when quarterback Dorian Jenkins (Indianapolis, IN, Arlington) hit Jaysn Murphy (Winchester, IN, Winchester) with a 6-yard scoring pass.

Quarterback Jacob Stewart (Richmond, IN, Centerville) led the Quakers on offense as he completed 11-of18 passes for 106 yards, while Jenkins was 4-of-9 for 19 yards and a touchdown. Jenkins also ran for 24 yards on the ground.

Kaleb Lingg (Dayton, OH, Northridge) had seven receptions for 69 yards to lead Earlham, while Murphy finished with five catches for 53 yards and a score.

Defensively, Seth Shipley (Springfield, OH, Springfield Shawnee) led the Quakers with nine tackles, while Aaron Barth (Springfield, OH, Springfield Shawnee) and Justin Darden (Muncie, IN, Central) had eight stops each. Collin Draine (Trotwood, OH, Trotwood-Madison) finished with seven tackles.

Barth, Draine, Eric Parton (Madison, WI, Middleton) and Chad Wertman (Holland, IN, Southridge) each had quarterback sacks and Darden recovered a fumble. Wertman also blocked an extra point.

Denison (1-1) scored twice in the first period to take a 14-0 advantage before leading 31-0 at intermission. The Big Red eventually built a 44-0 lead after three quarters.

The Quakers (0-2) celebrate Homecoming Weekend next Saturday as they entertain Manchester College.

The first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest of the season gets underway at 1:30 p.m.

The Spartans are 1-1 after defeating Kalamazoo College 26-17 at home on Saturday.
