ANDERSON, Ind. — A slow start hurt the Earlham College football team on Saturday night as the Quakers fell 48-14 at Anderson University.
The Ravens (1-3, 1-1) scored 14 points in the opening period to grab an early advantage.
James Kayhill (Powder Springs, GA, Hillgrove) scored Earlham's first touchdown on a 5-yard run to cut the deficit in half with 8:01 left in the second quarter.
However, Anderson responded with a pair of scores to build a 28-7 lead by intermission.
Earlham's second score of the night came when quarterback
Dorian Jenkins (Indianapolis, IN, Arlington) found
Kaleb Lingg (Dayton, OH, Northridge) for a 17-yard touchdown pass with 11:08 remaining in the final stanza.
Jenkins led the Quakers as he completed 9-of-22 passes for 89 yards and one touchdown.
Jaysn Murphy (Winchester, IN, Winchester) had five receptions for 26 yards, while Lingg caught four passes for 64 yards and a score.
Ryan Acosta (San Juan, PR, Commonwealth) had four receptions for 22 yards.
Defensively,
Seth Shipley (Springfield, OH, Springfield Shawnee) led the Quakers with 15 tackles.
Aaron Barth (Springfield, OH, Springfield Shawnee) and
Eric Parton (Madison, WI, Middleton) added 11 tackles each with
Dakota McElley (Lawrenceburg, IN, Lawrenceburg) finished with 10.
Justin Darden (Muncie, IN, Central) led the special teams unit with 116 yards on five kickoff returns.
Earlham (0-4, 0-2) stays on the road next Saturday with a trip to Bluffton Univerity. The HCAC contest begins at 1:30 p.m. The Beavers (0-4, 0-2) lost 28-17 at the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.
