EC Plays Manchester in Homecoming Contest

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College football team celebrated Homecoming on Saturday in from of an enthusiastic crowd.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, Manchester University won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest in Darrell Beane Stadium 42-13.

The Spartans (2-5, 2-3) built a 14-0 advantage early in the second period before the Quakers got on the scoreboard.

Matt Couch capped an 11-play, 62-yard drive with a 3-yard run to make it 14-6 with 10:38 remaining in the half.

Manchester added another score to lead 21-6 at the intermission.

In the third quarter, Manchester scored twice before Couch and Jalen Kenner hooked up on an 85-yard scoring pass to make it 35-13.

Manchester finished the scoring with a touchdown in the final stanza.

Couch ended the afternoon with 26 completions in 40 attempts for 293 yards and the score to Kenner.

Kenner led Earlham with 10 grabs for 150 yards. Leslie Dunlap added six receptions for 42 yards.

Adam Jolly had five catches for 60 yards. Lance Sherwood had three catches for 35 yards.

Defensively, D'Hari Curtis-Webster led the Quakers with 12 tackles. Lajay Kelly added nine tackles, while Kaleb Lingg finished with eight tackles. Junior Jean had an interception.

The Quakers (1-5, 0-4) are back in action next Saturday at Anderson University. The HCAC contest gets underway at 1:30 p.m.
