ANDERSON, Ind. —  A touchdown midway through the final period on Saturday proved to be the difference as the Earlham College football team posted a 21-20 come-from-behind victory at Anderson University.

With the Quakers trailing 20-14 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair, Matt Couch connected on a 39-yard scoring strike to Jalen Kenner to tie the contest with 8:45 left in the final quarter. John Hood's extra point boot turned out to be the game-winning moment.

The game didn't begin well for the Quakers as Anderson scored twice in the opening stanza, but the extra point attempt after the first touchdown was missed and the Ravens led 13-0.

The Ravens built a 20-0 advantage by halftime, after another touchdown in the second period.

Earlham started the road back on its second possession of the third quarter. After Nate McCormack recovered an Anderson fumble, the Quakers capped a 4-play, 36-yard drive with a Couch to Kenner 10-yard touchdown pass at the 11:34 mark.

Later in the third period, Tre Stephens got the Quakers closer with a 33-yard run with 47 seconds remaining.

Anderson (0-7, 0-5) had the ball at the start of the fourth quarter and put together a 12-play, 43-yard drive that ended when the Ravens couldn't convert on fourth down.

Earlham then went 60 yards in four plays on its next possession, which produced the game-winning score.

From that point, the Ravens had the ball four more times and failed to find the end zone as two of the drives ended with fumbles. The Quakers also forced the Ravens to punt and then they had another failed fourth down play.

Couch completed 14-of-33 passes for 204 yards and two scores. Kenner was his favorite target on Saturday with seven catches for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Stephens finished the afternoon with 116 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown.

Kaleb Lingg led the Quakers with 24 tackles (17 solos), while Dumont Schmidt added 11 tackles. McCormack and Ben Ballinger had 10 each.

The Quakers (2-5, 1-4) face Hanover College at home next Saturday. The HCAC contest in Darrell Bean Stadium gets underway at 1:30 p.m.
