EC Faces Panthers in Road Contest

HANOVER, Ind. — The Earlham College football team dropped a 49-34 decision on Saturday at Hanover College.

Earlham had an early lead against the Panthers (1-7, 1-5) in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.

Marcaus Cooper scored Earlham's first touchdown in the opening period on a 7-yard pass from Brennan Laird at 12:31.

The Panthers scored a pair of touchdowns to take a 14-7 advantage before Laird and Cooper would hook up again.

The pair converted on a 5-yard pass to tie the contest at 14-14 with 3:27 left in the first quarter.

On Hanover's next possession, D'Hari Curtis-Webster had a 5-yard interception return for a score and the Quakers led 21-14 with 2:32 to in the first.

In the second frame, Hanover tied the game again before the Quakers answered with a 32-yard field goal from Ryan Acosta at the 2:25 mark.

With two seconds remaining in the half, Hanover scored a touchdown to lead 28-24 at intermission.

Both teams scored in the third period as the Panthers maintained their lead at 35-31. Levi Hansen scored on a 45-yard run for the Quakers touchdown.

In the final stanza, Earlham's last score came on a 29-yard field goal from Acosta at 2:25.

Hansen led the Quakers on the ground with 100 yards on 15 carries. Tre Stephens added 42 yards in five rushes.

Laird finished the afternoon with 29 completions in 45 attempts for 283 yards and two touchdowns.

Jalen Kenner had 10 grabs for the Quakers as he gained 94 yards. With his receptions, Kenner set a new career standard for the Quakers with 182 catches as he passed Joe White (2004-07), who had 177.

Cooper had six receptions for 51 yards and a pair of scores. Will Davis had five catches for 68 yards, while Wesley Hundley added four receptions for 35 yards.
Defensively, Lajay Kelly led the Quakers with 10 tackles.

Mason Davis added eight stops, while Junior Jean, Denis Caulley, Ishmail MacNeil and David Dyer had six tackles each.

After a bye week, the Quakers (0-9, 0-7) finish the season in the Battle of the Borders Broadsword contest at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, Nov. 15. The HCAC game begins at 1:30 p.m.
