Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College football team made history on Saturday with the first-ever night game on campus.
"It was nice playing at night," Earlham Head Coach Neil Kazmierczak said. "I liked it a lot and I'm looking forward to doing it again."
The downside on Saturday was that Denison University won 35-6 over the Quakers in Darrell Beane Stadium.
"We didn't finish our drives offensively, and defensively we didn't get off the field on third down several times," Kazmierczak said. "We had the opportunities. Those are the two areas we need to improve on."
"We wore down a little bit," Kazmierczak continued. "I think some of that had to do with emotions.
Some of it we need to get more guys contributing so we can rotate a little bit deeper. We did get a little bit tired. That's our lack of depth. We have some guys who can come in and help us. We just have to get them in there."
After a scoreless first period, Denison grabbed a 14-0 advantage before a 24-yard field goal in the final moments of the opening half by Ryan Acosta.
The Big Red (1-0) made it 21-3 early in the third quarter. Acosta added another 24-yard field goal to make it 21-6 with 3:51 left in the third.
Denison finished the scoring with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Matt Couch was 16-of-33 for 178 yards for the Quakers.
Jalen Kenner caught five passes for 71 yards. Brennan Laird also had five receptions for 62 yards.
Marcaus Cooper had three grabs for 62 yards.
Lajay Kelly led the Quakers on defense with nine tackles. Mason Davis added seven stops. Corey Hammond had an interception.
The Quakers (0-1) are back in action next Saturday at home against Capital University. The contest gets underway at 1:30 p.m.
