Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College football forced overtime, but the Hanover Panthers escaped with a 35-34 victory in front of the homecoming crowd at Darrell Beane Stadium on Saturday.
Trailing 28-20 with under a minute to play, the Earlham offense drove 84 yards culminated by a 34-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Wesley Hundley to senior Jalen Kenner with five seconds left. The two would hook up again on the ensuing two-point conversion to force overtime.
In the overtime session, the Quakers scored first on a 12-yard run from freshman Sam Panton. Unfortunately, Earlham missed the point after, but still led 34-28.
After a first down, Hanover (2-6, 2-4 HCAC) faced a fourth down and three from the five yard line. The Panthers called timeout to talk over the play, and converted on a four-yard pass from Zachary Dolan to Dontre Woodruff. A play later, Justin Connors ran in the game-tying score. Hanover converted the point after to escape with the victory.
For the first time this season, the Quakers outgained their opponents in yardage as Earlham tallied 450 yards and Hanover had 412. Both ground attacks were on point during the contest as the Panthers rushed for 234 yards and the Quakers 219 yards.
Hundley finished with 231 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Kenner hauled in 10 receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Hundley rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown while sophomore Xavier Flores rushed 14 times for 87 yards.
Connors finished with 39 rushes for 198 yards and three touchdowns.
Earlham has its bye week next week, and concludes the 2015 season in the "Battle for the Boarder Broadsword" game against Rose-Hulman on Nov. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
