Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Earlham College football team lost 40-7 at defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) champions Franklin College on Saturday afternoon.
The Grizzlies scored two touchdowns in the first five minutes including a 97-yard touchdown pass from Chase Burton. Franklin would score another touchdown in the first quarter off of a run from Ty'Ronte Files.
Earlham failed to score in the first half as Franklin found pay dirt three more times in the second quarter.
Trailing 40-0, the Quakers' defense held the Grizzlies scoreless in the second half. Sophomore Treylon Anderson found junior Wesley Hundley for a 15-yard touchdown with 35 seconds remaining to avoid the shutout.
The Earlham offense finished with 310 total yards on 78 plays while Franklin had 479 yards in 45 plays. Junior Marcaus Cooper hauled in 16 receptions for 128 yards to lead the Quakers' offense. Hundley finished with 98 yards passing, 73 yards rushing, and 26 yards receiving.
Burton led the Franklin attack completing 11 of 13 passes for 317 yards and three scores. Deontez Alexander and Lee Wroblewski each caught a touchdown pass and had over 80 yards receiving.
Defensively, freshmen Kobe Walker and Jordan Christian combined for 15 tackles for the Quakers.
Earlham returns home for its homecoming game against Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, Oct. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
