LEXINGTON, Ky -- The Earlham College Men's Golf Team opened the 2023-24 season with a record-breaking performance at the star-studded Transylvania Fall Invitational.

The Quakers shot 314-299-299=912 destroying the previous school record of 920 from the 2019-2020 squad.

Mychal McKelvey also broke a school record, with the lowest 54-hole score in program history. McKelvey posted a 216 on the weekend, breaking the previous mark of 221.

Head Coach CD Hockersmith shared, "After a slow start in the first round, I'm really proud of how the guys responded. They stayed positive and posted back-to-back scores of 299. I'm really happy for junior Mychal McKelvey who finished for even par 71-74-71 (E) for the tournament. He played so consistent all tournament, leading the field in pars. Junior Charles Bowen-Rayner also had his best 54-hole performance, shooting 74-76-75 (+9). First-Year Arthur Del Bourgo also did a great job in his first collegiate tournament."

Juniors Adam Strecker and Hudson Roebken both bounced backed with contributions including Strecker's 73 (+1) in Round 2. The field included 6 teams named in the 2023-24 Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason DIII Coaches Poll.

Coach Hockersmith added, "Our players proved they belong competing with the top squads in DIII."

Next week the Quakers will be the lone DIII squad in Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.
