GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Earlham College women's tennis team began its Alabama trip with a loss to University of Wisconsin - Superior, and a win over Belhaven University.
MATCH ONE: EARLHAM 1 UW SUPERIOR 6
Vanessa Akuaku and
Lawrencia Manu won the No.1 doubles matchup 6-3 against UW Superior, marking the only doubles win of the match for Earlham. In singles play, Manu took a 6-4, 6-1 win in the No.2 spot. Akuaku and
Natalee McCann both went to three sets in their No.1 and No.4 singles matches.
MATCH TWO: EARLHAM 6 BELHAVEN 1
On Tuesday, the Quakers scored a sweep of doubles matchups with Akuaku and Manu scoring a 6-1 win in the No.1 spot. McCann and
Mackenzie Davis won their No.2 match 6-4, and
Ella Flottman-Mullen and
Madison Ruwersma earned a win in No.3 doubles.
Earlham won No.1 singles with Akuaku 6-2, 6-1, and No.2 singles with Manu 6-0, 6-0. In No.3 singles, Davis had to work for the win, taking a three-set, comeback win 5-7, 6-2, 10-8. McCann won at No.4 singles 6-1, 6-3.
The Quakers continue their Spring Break trip on Thursday against the University of St, Thomas at 2 pm. The trip ends against Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday at 11 am.
