LeRoy “Gene” Hambrick was a four-year tennis and three-year basketball player at Earlham. As a tennis player he earned all-conference and all-district honors in 1970-73, while playing at number one singles for three out of his four years. Hambrick recorded two undefeated fall seasons in his first years at Earlham while losing only a handful of matches during his four years. As a starting point guard in basketball, he helped lead his team to a 20-win season during the 1972-73 season under Hall of Fame Coach Del Harris. In addition to his athletics involvement, Hambrick helped start the Cub Scout pack at the Townsend Community Center and was the corresponding secretary for the Black Leadership Action Coalition.
