Jacob Freeland joined the EC coaching staff in August of 2024.
In the fall of 2025, Freeland was also given charge of the Earlham men's tennis program.
In the 2024-25 season, Freeland led the women to their best season since returning to action in 2022. The Quakers posted an 11-9 record, with a 5-1 conference mark. Earlham made the HCAC Tournament for the first time since 2019, and picked up a postseason win over Franklin College in the Gene Hambrick Varsity Tennis Center. After defeating Rose-Hulman in the semifinal, the Quakers fell to Transylvania in the HCAC Championship match.
Freeland comes to Earlham from NAIA Shawnee State University where he served as head men’s and women’s tennis coach for the Bears. In one full season leading Shawnee, Freeland brought the men’s program from a 2-13 record to a 10-12 mark. Under his leadership, the women’s team tied the program record for most wins in a season.
While with Shawnee State, Freeland recruited a 336th career-high ITF junior player, who became the school’s first nationally ranked singles player. He also led four athletes to all-conference honors in his first season with the program.
Before being named the head coach, Freeland served as an associate head coach with the Bears. He also has experience working with club tennis programs including the Missouri Athletic Club most recently.
Freeland graduated from Shawnee State in May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management. He earned All-Academic Mid-South Conference honors three times, and was a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete with the Bears.
