WILMINGTON, Ohio — Callie Thompson made sure that the
Earlham College women's soccer team didn't wind up on the wrong end of the score on Tuesday night.
Thompson scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period as Earlham defeated No. 21 ranked
Wilmington College 2-1 in non-conference action, which allowed the squad to bring home the Quaker Bowl.
The Quaker Bowl has been passed around between the football and men's basketball teams of the two schools since the 1960s.
Tuesday's winning score came at 1:02:10 with
Karman Duchon picking up an assist on the play.
Duchon gave Earlham an early 1-0 lead when she scored her fourth goal of the year at 14:40 with an assist from
Joy Doucette.
Wilmington (5-1-2) tied the match at 26:26. The contest was remained scoreless for almost 77 minutes until Thompson brought it to an end with her second goal of the season.
Earlham led 26-13 in shots, while
Wilmington had a 4-3 margin in corner kicks. Goalkeeper
Megan Holthaus recorded a pair of saves for Earlham.
Earlham (6-2) faces
No. 14 Otterbein College on Saturday at home. The non-conference match on Matlack Field begins at noon.
