Kenyon Upends Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind.A sluggish first half was too much for the Earlham College men's basketball team to overcome Wednesday night as the Quakers fell 77-56 to Kenyon College in a North Coast Athletic Conference game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

After Earlham scored the first basket of the contest, the Lords grabbed a small advantage and held on to it. Kenyon then used a 10-point run to take control of the game.

Matt Marsh cut the Earlham deficit to 18-13 when he scored at the 11:17 mark. Kenyon responded with its streak to grab a 28-13 lead with 7:00 remaining in the period. Earlham able to close the gap by intermission as the Lords led 35-26.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, Kenyon scored the first six points of the second half to take a 41-26 lead.

Earlham was able to cut into the margin when Shane Heidt drilled a 3-pointer to make it 41-31 with 16:23 left to play, but the Quakers couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.

A. J. Sutherlin led the Quakers with 10 points and three assists, while Heidt tossed in nine points to go with his two assists and three steals. Ryan Taylor also added nine points.

Marty Broderick scored seven points with a team-high six rebounds. Kyle Calder finished with six points and five rebounds.

The Quakers (3-13, 1-6) travel to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday. The NCAC game begins at 3 p.m.
