RICHMOND, Ind. — The
Earlham College men's basketball team had a pair of players reach double figures on Friday night as the Quakers fell 79-58 to
Allegheny College on
Schuckman Court in the Athletics and
Wellness Center.
A. J. Sutherlin topped the Quakers with 15 points in the North Coast Athletic Conference contest, while
Matt Marsh came of the bench to finish with 13 points.
Marty Broderick led Earlham with nine rebounds and
Shane Heidt dished out three assists.
The game was close early with the Quakers holding a 9-6 advantage after Marsh scored with 13:31 remaining in the opening period. At the point, the Gators (6-5, 3-0) scored 11 straight points to take a 17-9 lead at the 11:49 mark.
By the end the first half, the Quakers had responded to tie the game at 30-30 when Marsh scored with 2:25 left. Unfortunately for the Quakers, Allegheny finished the stanza with a 7-0 run to grab a 37-30 advantage at intermission.
Allegheny scored 10 consecutive points to start the second half to take a 47-30 lead with 16:59 remaining in the game. Earlham closed the gap to 52-45 when
Ryan Taylor hit a 3-pointer at 10:51, but the Quakers couldn't get any closer.
Earlham (3-8, 1-2) gets a visit from Hiram College on Saturday. The NCAC affair begins at 4 p.m.
