Quakers Win HCAC Match at Defiance

Box Score DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Earlham College women's soccer team accomplished two things on Tuesday afternoon.

With a 2-0 victory at Defiance College, the Quakers bounced back from a 1-0 overtime loss last weekend at Hanover College.

The second thing was that the Quakers (10-4-1) maintained their grip on the top spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 5-1 record.

The Quakers started the day tied in the standings at 4-1 with the College of Mount St. Joseph, Hanover and Transylvania University. Mount St. Joseph won 2-0 at Franklin on Tuesday to go to 5-1, while Hanover visits Transylvania on Wednesday.

"We needed to focus on rebounding after Hanover," Earlham Head Coach Jocelyn Keller said. "We did that and now we look toward Saturday."

On Tuesday, Rachel Dana (Columbus, IN, North) scored her first goal of the season at 34:51 to give the Quakers a 1-0. Dana became the 10th Earlham player to score a goal this fall. Karman Duchon (Decatur, GA, Decatur) picked up an assist on the play.

In the second half, the Quakers put the match away when Duchon scored on a penalty kick at the 70:47 mark. For Duchon, it was her 13th goal of the season. As Earlham's all-time leading scorer, Duchon now has 50 goals and 30 assists for 130 points in her career.

Earlham led 18-8 in shots, while holding an 8-2 advantage over the Yellow Jackets (4-6-3, 2-3-1) in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Megan Holthaus (Harrison, OH, McAuley) had four saves for the Quakers.

Next up for Earlham is a HCAC affair against Manchester College on Saturday. The match is part of Homecoming Weekend at Earlham and it starts at noon on Matlack Field. It will also be Senior Day.
