DEFIANCE, Ohio — Bannet Asingura and Ameer Yusuf led the Earlham College men's soccer team on Wednesday as the Quakers defeated Defiance College 3-0 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match.
The victory, the fourth in the last five matches for Earlham (7-8, 4-2), moves the Quakers into a tie for fourth place in the conference with Manchester (5-9-2, 4-2).
"One thing about this conference is that you have to play really good defense on the road to have a chance," Earlham Head Coach Roy Messer said. "Today, our team defense was good, which enabled us to get opportunities and earn a win away from home. Today was a team win in every sense of the term."
Asingura (Mbarara, Uganda, United World College USA) gave the Quakers an early 1-0 advantage over the Yellow Jackets (5-8-2, 1-4-1) on Wednesday with an unassited goal at 11:45.
In the second half, Asingura scored again with
Yusuf (Ramallah, Palestine, Friends) assisting at 50:11. It was the seventh goal of the fall for Asingura.
Yusuf added the final score of the match by himself at 60:32, which was his ninth goal of the season.
Earlham led 15-8 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks. Goalkeeper
Chris Marshall (Highland Park, NJ , Highland Park HS) had two saves for the Quakers.
The Quakers entertain Manchester during Homecoming Weekend on Saturday. The HCAC contest on Matlack Field gets underway at 2 p.m.
