Late Score Hurts EC in HCAC Match

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — A late goal by the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology proved to be the difference on Wednesday as the Earlham College men's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Engineers on Matlack Field.

Rose-Hulman (7-7-4, 4-2-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) scored the winning goal at 81:42.

A penalty kick at 44:30 provided the initial score of the contest for Rose-Hulman as the Engineers led 1-0 at intermission.

In the second period, Earlham tied the match when Alex Ferreira (Richmond, IN, Richmond) found Irhad Strika (Bosnia-Herzegovina, United World College Mostar ), who scored on a header at 65:55 to set the stage for the game-winner. It was Strika's third goal of the season and Ferreira's first assist.

The loss dropped the Quakers (7-10) to sixth place in the conference with a 4-4 mark.

The Engineers led 8-6 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks, while Earlham goalkeeper Chris Marshall (Highland Park, NJ , Highland Park HS) had four saves.

Wednesday was also the last home match for Earlham seniors Jeremy Pillow (Urbana, IL, University Laboratory High School), Jorge Villagran (Guatemala , International - Evelyn Rodgers), Bannet Asingura (Mbarara, Uganda, United World College USA) and Jonah Kreniske (New York, NY, Martin Luther King Jr. High School).

Earlham finishes the regular season on Saturday at Franklin College. The HCAC affair begins at 3 p.m.
