Quakers Score Four Times in Second Half to Win HCAC Contest

Box Score BLUFFTON, Ohio — All of Tuesday's scoring came in the second half as the Earlham College men's soccer team posted a 4-1 victory over Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University.

"It was a good victory," Earlham Head Coach Roy Messer said. "It's always a challenge to go on the road and get a win in the conference. We are very happy with the result."

Ameer Yusuf (Ramallah, Palestine, Friends) scored twice for his sixth and seventh goals of the fall, while Alex Ferreira (Richmond, IN, Richmond) and Evan Elko (Summit, NJ, Summit HS) each found the net for the first time this season.

Yusuf's initial score came at 53:16 with an assist from Jorge Villagran (Guatemala , International - Evelyn Rodgers). Bluffton tied the match at 59:16.

From that point, the Quakers took command on the scoreboard on the way to their third win in the last four matches. Ferreira's goal was at 59:39 with Bannet Asingura (Mbarara, Uganda, United World College USA) assisting on the play.

"It was good to see Alex score the game-winning goal," Messer said. 

Yusuf made it 3-1 at 85:11 with Elko assisting. Moments later at 85:58, Elko finished the day with his goal with Asingura getting credit for the assist.

Earlham had a 30-4 advantage in shots and 9-3 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Jonah Kreniske (New York, NY, Martin Luther King Jr. High School) didn't have a save for the Quakers as the Beavers (2-8, 0-3) only had one shot on goal. 

The Quakers (4-7, 1-1) entertain the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. The HCAC affair on Matlack Field gets underway at 3 p.m.
