Quakers End 2010 Against Kalamazoo

Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio — A career-high 24-point performance by Colton Bragg on Thursday enabled him to make the Bill Sudeck Holiday All-Tournament Team.

That was the good news. Unfortunately for the Earlham College men's basketball squad, it wasn't enough as the Quakers fell to Kalamazoo College 80-70 in the consolation round at Case Western Reserve University.

Bragg (Richmond, IN, Richmond) added five assists and three rebounds. Justin Barger (Ellettsville, IN, Edgewood) finished with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Kyle Tucker (Vincennes, IN, Lincoln) tossed in 10 points.

Marcus Bledsoe (Indianapolis, IN, Ritter) contributed eight points with six assists and six rebounds. Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) had eight points.

The Quakers fell behind early as Kalamazoo led 7-0 with 16:25 remaining in the opening half and the Hornets were on top 39-30 at intermission.

In the second half, the Quakers started quickly and closed the gap to 39-35 when Rusk drilled a 3-pointer with 18:35 on the clock.

The rally continued as the Quakers eventually grabbed a 44-43 advantage when Bragg scored with 15:56 left in the contest. Earlham's largest lead came moments later when Bragg scored again to make it 49-45 at 14:35.

Kalamazoo (3-8) responded and took the lead for good at 52-51 with 11:29 left to play. The Hornets widened their advantage to 65-55 with 5:53 left before the Quakers were able to get back in the contest. Bragg hit a 3-pointer to make it 72-68 with 1:13 remaining, but that was as close as the Quakers could get the rest of the way.

Earlham (2-9) faces the College of Mount St. Joseph on the road in its next contest on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
