Quakers Fall to Kenyon

GAMBIER, OhioThe Earlham College men's basketball team dropped a 66-51 decision on Wednesday to Kenyon College in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest.

The Lords got hot in the second half and made 18-of-30 (60.0 percent) shots to break open the contest that was tied 23-23 at intermission. Kenyon was 7-of-24 (29.2 percent) in the first half.

The Quakers never led in the second half, but were able to tie the contest for the fifth time at 32-32 when A. J. Sutherlin hit a basket with 16:39 remaining. From that time, the Lords went on a 6-0 run and were able to pull away from there.

Sutherlin led the Quakers with 13 points and seven rebounds. Marty Broderick tossed in 11 points, while Matt Marsh added eight points. Kyle Calder and Joe Brown finished with six points each.

Tight Opening Period

Kenyon (6-17, 3-12) started the game with an early advantage leading 14-7 with 12:51 left in the opening period. At that point, Earlham responded with 11 straight points to go on top 18-14.

Justin Barger hit a 3-pointer to give the Quakers a 16-14 lead at the 7:50 mark. Calder put the Quakers in front by four with a basket at 6:52.

After Kenyon regained the lead, Sutherlin scored to make it 21-20 with 4:30 left. The Lords hit a 3-pointer and then Marsh scored to tie the game 23-23 at the half to set the stage for Kenyon to catch fire in the second frame.

Earlham (3-21, 1-14) entertains the College of Wooster in Saturday's regular season finale. The NCAC match up begins at 1 p.m.
