RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men's basketball team started slowly on Wednesday night and couldn't recover as the Quakers dropped a 68-57 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference decision to Defiance College.
Earlham fell behind 14-4 with 16:13 left in the opening period on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
The Quakers were able to cut the lead down to six points on three occasions with the last time coming after
Josh Green (Campbellsburg, IN, West Washington) drilled a 3-pointer to make it 22-16 at the 7:38 mark.
From that point, the Yellow Jackets (9-5, 4-3) were able to widen their margin to 38-25 by intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers fought to stay in the contest and worked the deficit down to the final amount of 11 points three times.
Green led the Quakers with 17 points and four assists.
Kyle Tucker (Vincennes, IN, Lincoln) tossed in 15 points, while
Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) added eight points as he pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
The Quakers (2-12, 0-7) finish the week on the road at Bluffton University. The HCAC contest begins at 3 p.m.
