EC Plays HCAC Foe Franklin

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men's basketball team dropped a 63-54 decision Saturday afternoon to Franklin College on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Marcus Bledsoe (Indianapolis, IN, Ritter) and Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) led the Quakers with 10 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.

Kyle Tucker (Vincennes, IN, Lincoln) and Josh Green (Campbellsburg, IN, West Washington) tossed in nine points each for the Quakers as Ryan Taylor (Martinsville, IN, Martinsville) and Justin Barger (Ellettsville, IN, Edgewood) added seven points apiece.

Bledsoe led Earlham with three assists, while Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Franklin (6-11, 4-5) jumped out to an early advantage, but the Quakers eventually tied the game at 6-6 when Rusk hit a pair of free throws with 13:53 left in the opening period.

At that point, the Grizzlies went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 at the 11:49 mark.

Tucker got Earlham to within three points when he scored at 11:53 to make it 13-10, but that was a close as the Quakers would get as Franklin led 28-18 at intermission.

In the second half, the Quakers came out and cut the deficit 32-27 when Tucker drilled a 3-pointer with 16:17 left to play.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, Franklin scored the next 10 points to build a 42-27 advantage to take control of the game.

Earlham (2-15, 0-10) visits Manchester College on Wednesday. The HCAC affair gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
