ANDERSON, Ind. — The offense was in high gear on Saturday for the Earlham College women's soccer team as the Quakers defeated Anderson University 5-0 with a season-high scoring total.
Joy Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) led the charge with the first two goals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match against the Ravens (2-7, 0-2). Her first score came 12 seconds into the match with the second at 18:26. She leads the Quakers with five goals and two assists.
Cate Simmermaker (Louisville, KY, DuPont Manual) gave the Quakers a 3-0 advantage just before intermission with her first goal of the fall at 39:14.
In the second half,
Ikumi Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) scored for the third time this season at 77:15 as Simmermaker picked up an assist.
Moments later,
Paige Thomas (Bel Air, MD, Baltimore Friends School) ended the scoring for the Quakers with an unassisted tally at 78:07. Thomas has now scored twice in 2011.
Overall, the Quakers had a 24-4 lead in shots with a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
Earlham goalkeeper
Kate Franks (Hopewell, OH, West Muskingum ) had three saves to preserve her third shutout of the season and fourth of her career.
The Quakers (4-4-1, 1-0) return home on Tuesday to entertain Bluffton University. The HCAC match on Matlack Field gets underway at 4 p.m.
