RICHMOND, Ind. — A flash of lightning forced the end of the Earlham College men's soccer match on Tuesday.
The Quakers and Defiance College were tied 1-1 in the second overtime session when the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Matlack Field was called at 104:09.
Earlham is now 4-10-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference, which puts the Quakers in third place.
Corey Campbell (Mason, OH, Mason) gave the Quakers the lead in the first half with a goal at 13:33.
Irhad Strika (Bosnia-Herzegovina, United World College Mostar ) and
Ameer Yusuf (Ramallah, Palestine, Friends) assisted on the play.
With the Quakers still on top, the second half was delayed 42 minutes with the first round of lightning at 72:44.
When play resumed, the Yellow Jackets (4-8-3, 2-2-2) eventually were able to tie the contest with a score at 88:42.
After the first extra session was scoreless, the two teams battled for just over four minutes in the second overtime before play was stopped.
The Quakers had 16-12 advantage in shots, while Defiance had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks,

Chris Marshall (Highland Park, NJ , Highland Park HS) had six saves with four coming in the second period when the Yellow Jackets had 10 shots.
The Quakers visit Manchester College on Saturday. The HCAC match begins at 1 p.m.
