XENIA, Ohio — A steady downpour couldn't stop the regionally-ranked Earlham College women's soccer team on Wednesday night as the Quakers defeated Defiance College 3-1.
The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match was moved from Earlham to the turf field at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex earlier in the day because of the weather forecast.
With the victory, the Quakers (9-4-1, 6-0) maintain their hold on first place in the HCAC and set a school record with their seventh straight win.
Elizabeth Richards (Marysville, WA, Stanwood) gave the Quakers a 1-0 advantage in the opening half with her first collegiate goal at 2:25.
In the second period
, Ikumi Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) scored twice for Earlham, which is No. 7 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Great Lakes Region poll.
Doucette's first score made it 2-0 at 46:15. The Yellow Jackets (3-13, 1-5) scored at 62:54 to cut the deficit in half.
Ikumi Doucette answered for the Quakers at 71:19 with
Joy Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) assisting on the play. Ikumi Doucette now is tied with Joy Doucette for the team lead in goals with seven.
Joy Doucette has four assists and is the top scorer for the Quakers with 18 points.
The Quakers led 26-5 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks.
Earlham goalkeeper
Kate Franks (Hopewell, OH, West Muskingum ) had three saves for the Quakers.
Next up for the Quakers is a trip to Manchester College on Saturday. The HCAC contest begins at 3 p.m.
