RICHMOND, Ind. — Two goals in the first half proved to be enough for the Earlham College women's soccer team on Tuesday as the Quakers won their third straight match.
The Quakers defeated Bluffton University 2-1 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Matlack Field. As part of the winning streak, Earlham has defeated DePauw University 1-0 and Anderson University 5-0.
With the win, the Quakers (5-4-1, 2-0) are part of a three-way tie for first place in the HCAC with Transylvania University and Hanover College.
On Tuesday,
Ikumi Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) picked up Earlham's first goal at 1:46 with an assist from
Cate Simmermaker (Louisville, KY, DuPont Manual ). It was Ikumi Doucette's fourth goal of the season and seventh of her career.
Joy Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) gave the Quakers their 2-0 advantage in the opening stanza when she scored for a team-high sixth time this season at 34:34 with Simmermaker assisting. Joy Doucette now has 24 goals in her career, while Simmermaker leads the Quakers this season with three assists.
The Beavers (4-3-1, 1-2) scored their goal at 82:39 to cut the defict in half, but that was all they would get against the Quakers.
Earlham goalkeeper
Kate Franks (Hopewell, OH, West Muskingum ) had three saves for the Quakers. Earlham led 10-6 in shots and 2-1 in corner kicks.
The Quakers are on the road Saturday at the College of Mount St. Joseph. The HCAC match gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
