ANDERSON, Ind. — The Earlham College men's basketball team fell 79-61 on Saturday to Anderson University.
Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) led the Quakers with 19 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair. Rusk also shared the lead in rebounds with
Justin Barger (Ellettsville, IN, Edgewood) as they pulled down six apiece.
Josh Green (Campbellsburg, IN, West Washington) added 12 points and four rebounds with a team-high four assists.
Barger and
Colton Bragg (Richmond, IN, Richmond) tossed in eight points each.
Marcus Bledsoe (Indianapolis, IN, Ritter) finished with six points, while
Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) had five rebounds.
The game was tight early as the Quakers scored the first basket of the contest when Bledsoe scored.
From that point, the game was tied four times with the last coming at 14-14 with 10:24 remaining in the opening period when Green scored.
The Ravens (6-4, 3-1) scored the next five points before Bragg hit a 3-pointer to make it 19-17 at 7:35.
Anderson was able to put together another run to build a 32-22 advantage with 3:16 left before halftime.
By intermission, Anderson led 37-29.
After Anderson hit a pair of free throws to begin the second half, Bragg cut the deficit to 39-32 with a 3-pointer at the 19:26 mark.
The Ravens scored the next four points to widen their margin and they were able to hold off the Quakers the rest of the way.
Earlham (0-10, 0-4) finishes the 2011 portion of its schedule on Monday at Kenyon College. The non-conference contest gets underway at 6 p.m.
