GAMBIER, Ohio — The Earlham College men's basketball team finished the 2011 portion of its schedule on Monday night with a 76-55 loss at Kenyon College.
Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) led the Quakers with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Ryan Taylor (Martinsville, IN, Martinsville) and
Josh Green (Campbellsburg, IN, West Washington) tossed in nine points each. Green added a team-high three assists.
Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) finished with seven points and four rebounds, while
Eric Messer (Indianapolis, IN, International) contributed five points and five rebounds.
An early run by the Lords proved to be the difference in the non-conference affair.
After
Kyle Calder (Crawfordsville, IN, North Montgomery) tied the game at 2-2 with 17:21 on the clock in the opening period, Kenyon scored the next 10 points to take a 12-2 lead with 14:44 to go in the first half.
The Lords (3-6) eventually led 19-5 before Rusk scored five straight points to close the gap to 19-10 at 10:53.
Taylor cut the deficit later in the period with a 3-pointer to make it 26-19 with 7:50 remaining.
By intermission, Kenyon led 34-23 and the Lords were able to widen their margin in the second half.
The Quakers return to action against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Earlham (0-11, 0-4) entertains the Engineers on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center at 7:30 p.m.
