Panthers Defeat Earlham

Box Score HANOVER, Ind. — An eight-point run late in the first half by Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference co-leader Hanover College hurt the Earlham College men's basketball team on Saturday as the Quakers fell 81-61 to the Panthers.

Leading 26-19 with 7:47 to go in the first half, Earlham had four turnovers and a missed shot that helped the Panthers (17-5, 13-3) rally to take a 27-26 advantage with 6:00 on the clock.

Kyle Tucker (Vincennes, IN, Lincoln) score to put the Quakers on top again at 28-27 with 5:44 remaining in the opening stanza.

From that point, Hanover took the lead for good with its next basket as the Panthers built a 45-37 lead by intermission.

In the second half, Hanover widened its lead before a basket by Earlham's Colton Bragg make it 40-30 with 18:57 left in the game, but that was as close as the Quakers could get the rest of the way.

Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) led the Quakers with 14 points, while Bragg and Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) added 10 points each. Tucker and Ryan Taylor (Martinsville, IN, Martinsville) finished with eight points apiece.

Rusk, Broderick, Tucker and Josh Green (Campbellsburg, IN, West Washington) all had four rebounds to lead the Quakers. Broderick contributed four assists and Taylor had three steals.

Earlham (2-21, 0-16) entertains Transylvania University on Wednesday. The HCAC contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center starts at 7:30 p.m.
