TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — A second-half scoring run by the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Thursday provided a boost for the Engineers as they defeated the Earlham College men's basketball team 67-50 on Thursday night.
Earlham led 31-30 at halftime of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game and after a basket by
Josh Green (Campbellsburg, IN, West Washington) gave the Quakers a 33-32 advantage with 18:39 left in the second period, Rose-Hulman scored the next seven points to take the lead for good.
Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) capped a four-point run by Earlham with a score at 15:15 to make it 39-37, but that was a close as the Quakers would get as the Engineers (14-6, 8-5) pulled away.
Rusk led the Quakers with 15 points, while Green tossed in 11 points.
Marcus Bledsoe (Indianapolis, IN, Ritter) led Earlham with six rebounds and three assists.
Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) pulled down five rebounds.
Early Lead
Earlham got off to a good start as the Quakers led 10-4 after a 3-pointer by
Ryan Taylor (Martinsville, IN, Martinsville) at the 12:38 mark of the first half.
Justin Barger (Ellettsville, IN, Edgewood) drilled a 3-pointer with 8:20 remaining in the opening period to give the Quakers a 17-14 lead. Rose-Hulman rallied to go on top 21-17 at 7:00 before the Quakers responded and built their 31-30 lead at intermission.
The Quakers (2-18, 0-13) entertain the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. The HCAC affair on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center gets underway at 3 p.m.
