DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Earlham College men's basketball team dropped a 78-50 decision at Defiance College on Wednesday night.
Ryan Taylor (Martinsville, IN, Martinsville) led the Quakers with 16 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.
Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) tossed in 14 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Josh Green (Campbellsburg, IN, West Washington) added six points.
Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) finished with seven rebounds, while leading the Quakers with six assists.
Earlham had an early 4-3 lead when Taylor scored at the 15:18 mark of the opening period. The Yellow Jackets responded with seven straight points to take a 10-4 lead with 13:42 left.
Defiance would widen its lead to 16 points twice in the first half with the last coming with 6:19 to go with the score 27-11.
From that point, the Quakers finished the first half with a 16-5 run to cut the deficit to 32-27 by intermission.
Unfortunately for the Quakers, Defiance began the second half with nine straight points to grab a 41-27 advantage with 17:56 left to play.
Earlham was able to close the gap to 50-41 as Taylor drilled a 3-pointer with 12:55 remaining, but the Yellow Jackets (11-11, 6-9) pulled away from that point.
The Quakers (2-20, 0-15) travel to Hanover College on Saturday. The HCAC contest gets underway at 3 p.m.
