Volleyball Team Opens at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Earlham College volleyball team opened the season on Friday at the Bishop Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Quakers fell to Wilmington College 25-16, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19 in their first match.

Earlham's second match on Friday was against the host Bishops as Ohio Wesleyan won 25-19, 32-30, 25-13.

"I was very pleased with our performance," Earlham Head Coach Loni Clark said. "The things we have been concentrating on in practice, we did really well."

"I hope we can bring the same level of play on Saturday despite playing long games on Friday in an extremely hot gym," Clark added.

No statistics were available from the Wilmington contest, but against Ohio Wesleyan, Jazmyn Corlew (Elyria, OH, Elyria) led the Quakers with nine kills.

Andrea Thompson (McCordsville, IN, Muncie Burris) added eight kills, while Ashlee Heberger (Fairport) had 19 assists. Corlew and Thompson led the squad with seven digs each.

The Quakers (0-2) finish the event facing Denison University (10 a.m.) and Grove City College (noon) on Saturday.
