Quakers Face Case Western in Home Opener

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men's soccer team opened the home portion of its 2011 schedule on Sunday with a 3-1 loss to Case Western Reserve University on Matlack Field.

The Spartans (2-0) scored twice on goals by Vinny Bell in the first half at 8:31 and 20:35.

In the second period of the non-conference match, Case Western added its final score at 55:50.

The Quakers got on the scoreboard at the 77:36 mark with a successful penalty kick by Tamru Taye (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Waterford Kamhlaba).

Case Western had an 18-6 advantage in shots and led 7-3 in corner kicks.

Earlham goalkeeper Sam Embry (New York, NY, Bard Early) had six saves for the Quakers in his first start of the fall.

The Quakers (0-2) visit Ohio Northern University on Wednesday. The non-conference affair gets underway at 4 p.m.
