RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's soccer team needed a goal in the second half on Tuesday to come away with a 1-1 tie in double overtime with Defiance College.
The Yellow Jackets (6-3-3, 1-0-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead at 36:52 in the first period of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Matlack Field.
Earlham tied the match when
Ryder Comstock (Yellow Springs, OH, Yellow Springs) found the back of the goal with
Joy Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) assisting on the play at 51:27. It was the fifth goal of the season for Comstock and the second assist for Doucette.
From that point, both teams had opportunities for a second goal. Earlham had a 9-2 edge in shots in the two extra sessions.
Overall, the Quakers led 31-11 in shots and 10-2 in corner kicks. Earlham goalkeeper
Ashley (A.J.) Johnson (Columbus, OH, Ohio Virtual Academy) had four saves for the Quakers.
Earlham (5-4-1, 1-0-1) returns to action on Saturday at Bluffton University. The HCAC match gets underway at 1 p.m.
