RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's soccer team scored three times in the second half on Saturday as the Quakers defeated Bluffton University 4-3.
Joy Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) scored an unassisted goal at 74:30, which proved to be the game-winner of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Matlack Field.
The win puts the Quakers in a first place tie in the HCAC with Defiance College.
The Quakers got started early in the affair when
Ikumi Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) scored at 2:55 with an assist from Joy Doucette.
Bluffton (2-7-1, 0-1-1) picked up a pair of goals during the rest of the opening period giving the Beavers a 2-1 at the intermission.
In the second half, Ikumi Doucette scored with an assist from
Cate Simmermaker (Louisville, KY, DuPont Manual ) at 67:12 to tie the match at 2-2.
Ryder Comstock (Yellow Springs, OH, Yellow Springs) put the Quakers on top at 72:50 with Joy Doucette receiving credit for an assist.
Moments later, the Beavers tied the contest at 3-3 to set the stage for the game-winning score by Joy Doucette.
Earlham led 17-11 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks.
Annie Frodeman (Denton, TX, Guyer) started in goal for the Quakers and had five saves.
The Quakers (6-4-1, 2-0-1) entertain Hanover College on Wednesday. The HCAC match begins at 4 p.m.
