RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men's basketball team finished the HCAC/MIAA Challenge on Sunday as the Quakers fell 68-56 to Kalamazoo College on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) posted the first double-double of his career for the Quakers with 15 points and 11 rebounds against the Hornets (1-1).
Tyler Lewers (Indianapolis, IN, Gary West) led the Quakers with 16 points.
Kristian Barden (Detroit, MI, Pershing) tossed in nine points, while grabbing a game-high 17 rebounds. He also had four blocks.
Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) finished with nine points.
Kalamazoo led early at 11-2 with 15:49 left in the opening stanza before the Quakers rallied with seven straight points. Broderick scored at the 10:43 mark to make it 11-9.
Barden got the Quakers closer at 14-13 with 8:44 remaining. Later in the period, Rusk scored and added a free throw again close the gap to 23-20 at 4:41.
The Hornets finished the half with a 14-4 run to lead 37-24 at intermission.
In the second half,
Jack O'Flaherty (Sheridan, IN, Sheridan) drilled a 3-pointer to pull the Quakers to within 39-34 with 16:34 left to play.
From that point, Kalamazoo scored five in a row to build a 44-34 advantange at the 14:48 mark that the Hornets were able to maintain the rest of the way.
Earlham (1-4) entertains DePauw University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
