RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men's basketball team dropped a tight non-conference contest at home on Wednesday night.
DePauw University won 77-65 over Earlham on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center as the Quakers had three players in double figures.
Jack O'Flaherty (Sheridan, IN, Sheridan) led the Quakers with 17 points, while
Tyler Lewers (Indianapolis, IN, Gary West) tossed in 14 points and handed out five assists.
Kristian Barden (Detroit, MI, Pershing) added 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) finished with nine points and
Blake Welch (Lynn, IN, Randolph Southern) had eight points.
The Quakers jumped all over the Tigers (4-1) from the start. When O'Flaherty drilled a 3-pointer at the 17:44 mark the Quakers led 7-0.
DePauw eventually took an 18-16 lead with 10:41 left in the opening frame.
After Barden scored and Welch hit a 3-pointer, the Quakers were back on top 21-18 with 10:01 remaining.
Iman Sharif (Wyoming, MI, Rogers) hit a trey at the 8:39 mark to give the Quakers a 24-18 lead.
The Tigers were able to bounce back to grab a 28-27 advantage at 4:11. The Quakers finished the half with a 7-5 run to lead 34-33 at intermission.
In the second half, the Tigers started with a 7-2 run to go on top 44-36 with 17:19 left in the contest.
The Quakers were able to battle back into the affair and closed the gap to 58-57 when O'Flaherty hit a 3-pointer with 5:35 left.
Down the stretch, the Tigers were able to make enough free throws to hold off the Quakers.
Earlham (1-5) begins play in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday as the Quakers visit the College of Mount St. Joseph at 3 p.m.
