FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Earlham College men's basketball team dropped a 69-54 decision on Saturday to Franklin College.
Jack O'Flaherty (Sheridan, IN, Sheridan) led the Quakers with 16 points against the Grizzlies (4-3, 2-1) in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.
Kristian Barden (Detroit, MI, Pershing),
Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) and
Tyler Lewers (Indianapolis, IN, Gary West) each finished with seven points. Barden grabbed and game-high 14 rebounds, while Rusk had seven rebounds.
Earlham jumped out to a quick 5-0 advantage when O'Flaherty hit a 3-pointer at the 19:25 mark of the first period.
After the Grizzlies closed the gap, O'Flaherty struck again with another trey to give the Quakers a 10-6 with 14:58 to go.
Franklin scored the next seven points to grab a 13-10 lead at 12:30.
O'Flaherty scored to make it 13-12 with 11:08 to play.
From that point, Franklin was able to widen it margin to 28-19 at 3:52 before finishing the first half on top 30-24.
In the second half, the Grizzlies scored the first 17 points to open the frame on the way to the win.
The Quakers (1-8, 0-3) return home next Saturday to entertain Anderson University. The HCAC contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center gets underway at 3 p.m.
