EC Starts HCAC Slate with Tie

Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Earlham College men's soccer team opened play in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday with a 1-1 tie at Franklin College.

The Quakers surrendered a goal in the first half to the Grizzlies (2-5-2, 0-0-1), but came back to tie the contest late in the second period.

Tamru Taye (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Waterford Kamhlaba) scored at 83:47 to send the match into extra sessions. Corey Campbell (Mason, OH, Mason) assisted on the score.

In the extra time, Franklin had a 4-1 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.

For the match, Franklin led 14-11 in shots and 7-4 in corner kicks.

Earlham goalkeeper Chris Marshall (Highland Park, NJ , Highland Park HS) had two saves for the Quakers in the contest, including one in the second overtime.

The Quakers (2-7-1, 0-0-1) return home on Wednesday to entertain Defiance College. The HCAC match on Matlack Field is at 4 p.m.
