KALAMAZOO, Mich. â€" The Earlham College men's basketball team dropped a 63-51 decision to Trine University on Thursday night in the MIAA/HCAC Challenge at Kalamazoo College.
Michael Parker led the Quakers with 12 points against the Thunder (1-0).
Kirk Douglas tossed in 11 points with seven rebounds, while Kristian Barden and Chris Holmes added seven points each. Barden pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Jack O'Flaherty finished with six points and four assists.
The Quakers began the contest with an early advantage. Douglas scored at the 16:24 mark to make it 7-4.
The Thunder later grabbed the lead as the teams battled through the opening period.
Phillip Boone drilled a 3-pointer to give the Quakers a 20-18 lead with 4:10 to go in the first half
When O'Flaherty scored with 1:10 left, the Quakers had their largest lead at 24-18. Earlham led 26-23 by intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers were able to hold a 34-33 lead with 15:31 remaining in the contest.
From that point, Trine went on top 35-34 at the 15:14 mark and the Thunder were able to lead the rest of the way.
Earlham (0-3) returns to action on Friday during the second day of the MIAA/HCAC Challenge against Kalamazoo at 6 p.m.
