RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The season came to an end for the Earlham College men's soccer team on Tuesday as the Quakers fell to Transylvania University in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Pioneers advanced to Saturday's tourney championship match with a 4-2 edge in penalty kicks, after the two teams battled through a pair of extra sessions on Matlack Field with a 1-1 draw.
Transylvania (12-4-3) got on the scoreboard first with a goal at 18:20 of the opening period. The match stayed 1-0 into the second half before the Quakers tied the affair.
Ameer Yusuf scored at 71:25 with an assist from Felicien Muyumba, which would eventually send the contest into overtime.
Jacob Ebbs and Tamru Taye each scored for the Quakers during the penalty kicks, but the Pioneers were able to get four into the net.
Transylvania led 16-9 in shots and 8-6 in corner kicks.
Earlham goalkeeper Sam Embry had six saves for the Quakers.
The Quakers finish the fall at 11-8-1 overall, after claiming the HCAC regular season crown. Â
