EC Battles Hanover

Box Score HANOVER, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's basketball team fell 77-68 in a tight contest at Hanover College on Saturday.

Chris Holmes led the Quakers with 28 points against the Panthers (5-2, 2-1) in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.

Jack O'Flaherty added 16 points. Phillip Boone tossed in eight points, while Kirk Douglas and Alonzo Genelin finished with six point each. Holmes and Genelin topped with Quakers with five rebounds apiece.

The Quakers began the contest with seven straight points to build a 7-0 lead when Holmes hit a pair of free throws at the 17:27 mark of the first half.

Holmes eventually gave the Quakers their largest lead at 15-7 when he drilled a 3-pointer with 14:09 left in the opening period.

Hanover answered the run and went in from 20-19 by 8:17. Holmes tied the game at 31-31 with 2:04 remaining in the half.

After leading 37-33 at the intermission, Hanover started the second half with a 21-7 run to go in front 58-40 with 12:25 left in the game.

The Quakers were able to close the gap to six points twice in the second stanza with the last coming when Holmes hit two free throws at the 6:25 mark to make it 62-56.

From that point, the Panthers were able to maintain their advantage the rest of the way.

Earlham (2-6, 1-2) is at home on Tuesday against Albion College. The non-conference game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center gets underway at 7 p.m.
