EC Visits Bluffton in HCAC Opener

Box Score BLUFFTON, Ohio â€" The Earlham College men's basketball team opened play in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday with a 70-45 loss at Bluffton University.

Kirk Douglas led the Quakers with 11 points and five blocks against the Beavers (3-3, 1-0).

Jack O'Flaherty tossed in eight points, while Michael Parker finished with seven points and a team-high six rebounds. Douglas, Kristian Barden and Chris Holmes pulled down five rebounds each.

After Barden scored the first basket of the contest, the Beavers went on a run to build a 14-2 advantage by the 12:12 mark of the first half.

Parker hit a 3-pointer with 8:36 to go in the opening period to close the gap to 20-14.

The Beavers answered, but when O'Flaherty hit the last basket of the half the Quakers trailed 27-22 at the intermission.

In the second half, Bluffton scored the first 16 points of the frame to lead 43-22 wth 14:21 remaining in the contest.

The Quakers (1-5, 0-1) play their home opener on Saturday against Manchester University. The HCAC affair on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center starts at 4 p.m.
