Quakers Win Second Straight

Box Score NO. MANCHESTER, Ind. — For the second straight game, the Earlham College men's basketball team was able to hold on in the final moments to come away with a victory.

The Quakers got a game-winning 3-pointer from Jack O'Flaherty (Sheridan, IN, Sheridan) with 12 seconds remaining as the Quakers finished the season on the right side of a 61-59 decision at Manchester University.

"It was awesome to get a win in the last game of the season," Earlham Head Coach Marcus Gill said. "It gives us great momentum going into next year with as many guys as we have returning. "I'm also so proud of the seniors for finishing strong."

Manchester (4-21, 1-17) had a chance at the buzzer, but the Spartans couldn't convert on a 3-pointer.

Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) led the Quakers in the final game of his career with 22 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest. O'Flaherty ended with 20 points.

Vadial Jett (Richmond, IN, Richmond) added eight points for the Quakers with a team-high six assists. Kristian Barden (Detroit, MI, Pershing) pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go with five points. Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) scored two points in his last contest with the Quakers.

The Quakers led early and Rusk put the Quakers on top 7-2 with a 3-pointer at the 17:32 mark of the first half. O'Flaherty hit a trey at 12:18 to put the Quakers up 14-7.

The Spartans eventually responded and took a 17-16 lead with 9:03 left.

Earlham was able to answer and the Quakers held a 33-28 advantage by intermission.

In the second half, Manchester began the period with some momentum to take a 40-37 lead with 16:07 remaining in the contest.

Jett answered with a 3-pointer to tie the game at 40-40 with 15:34 left.

Both teams had leads before the game was tied for the seventh time at 52-52 with 6:09 on the clock.

O'Flaherty capped a 5-0 Earlham run with a pair of free throws to give the Quakers a 57-52 lead at 4:40.

Manchester bounced back with a run of its own to go in front 59-58 with 1:57 remaining.

After both teams missed opportunities on their next possessions, O'Flaherty settled the issue with his game-winner.

Earlham finishes the season at 4-21 overall and 3-15 in the conference.
