Yusuf Leads Quakers to Victory

RICHMOND, Ind. â€" A three-goal performance by Ameer Yusuf on Friday led the Earlham College men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Cincinnati Christian University.

Yusuf gave the Quakers an early advantage on Matlack Field with two goals at 4:47 and 17:59. Tamru Taye assisted on the first and Jacob Ebbs on the second.

The Quakers finished the opening half with a score from TiQi Brown at 37:09. Scott Lawrence picked up an assist on the play.

In the second half, Taye scored at 50:38 with Yusuf getting an assist. Yusuf finished the scoring with an unassited goal at 61:01.

It was the first time in his career that Yusuf had three goals in a match for the Quakers. The last Earlham player to score three times in a match was Bannet Asingura back in a 4-1 win at Manchester University in 2009. Victor Anciano was the last Quaker to score three goals at home in a 3-2 win over Manchester in 2008.

The Quakers led 20-8 in shots, while Cincinnati Christian held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Earlham goalkeeper Aaron Falsetto had four saves in the shutout.

Earlham (1-0) faces Maryville College at home on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
