Women's Soccer Starts with Tie

RICHMOND, Ind. â€" A late score in the second half helped the Earlham College women's soccer team begin its season with a tie on Friday.

The Quakers and Concordia University of Chicago battled through two overtimes on Matlack Field to end at 2-2.

Concordia (0-0-1) scored early in the contest before the Quakers tied the match at 40:57 when Cherrah Barclay made it 1-1 with an unassisted goal.

In the second half, Concordia took a 2-1 lead at 61:06 before the Quakers answered.

Kelly Mayhew scored with an assist from Annie Frodeman at 83:48 to send the match into extra periods.

Concordia led 12-9 in shots, while the Quakers had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

Earlham goalkeeper A.J. Johnson had five saves.

The Quakers (0-0-1) entertain Maryville College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
