Quakers Play at Mt. St. Joe

Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio â€" A second half run by the College of Mount St. Joseph proved to be the difference on Saturday as the Lions defeated the Earlham College men's basketball team 81-72.

Phillip Boone hit a pair of free throws to give the Quakers a 52-51 lead with 8:31 remaining in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.

After that moment, the Lions went on a 16-2 run to go in front 67-54 by the 4:12 mark of the second half. Mount St. Joseph (8-4, 5-1) was able to maintain its edge the rest of the way.

Michael Parker led Earlham with 17 points, while Chris Holmes recorded his first double-double for the Quakers with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Kirk Douglas finished with 14 points.

Mount St. Joseph opened the contest with an 18-9 lead at 14:12 of the first period. The Quakers battled back to make it 18-14 on a basket by Holmes with 11:44 on the clock.

The Lions led 38-28 by halftime.

In the second half, the Quakers eventually tied the game at 47-47 when Douglas scored with 10:36 left to set the stage for the critical run by the Lions.

Earlham (2-11, 1-5) entertains Transylvania University on Wednesday. The HCAC contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center starts at 7:30 p.m.
